Across to Norway

Here is a book from Robin's library:

Howarth, David. Across to Norway. William Sloane Associates. (First American Edition, New York, 1952.) (Originally published in England under the title The Shetland Bus)

David Howarth was a Lieutenant-Commander in the British Royal Navy, who was given the responsibility of organizing a group of Norwegian seamen to run underground supplies and people on fishing boats to and from Lunna Island off the Shetland Coast to Norway. Howarth makes clear from the beginning that he, himself, did not participate in any of the heroics. He simply has compiled from the records this historic account. His honesty and modesty is very refreshing.
Among their famous missions was the ill-fated Jan Baalsrud attempt to blow up a Nazi boat.

---Friluftsliv is a Norwegian tradition of living close to nature. The Norwegian hytte belongs to this heritage. See our favorite magazine Hytteliv.
---The Alaska Log Home was built in 2003 by Bill Kisken of Log Weavers using the hand scribed Swedish cope system. Bill is an artist. Notice how tightly the logs fit at the ends, this is very diffucult to achieve.
---Connections: James Burke's Knowledge Web Project inspired by the series "Connections" provides a unique perspective of the interaction of history, technology, knowledge and social change. Everything is interdependent.
